St Andrew’s has active Senior and Junior Choirs. Both choirs sing in the weekly services and special services. Choir concerts are also performed during the church year.
The choir’s repertoire features a wide range of ancient and modern sacred music from English anthems, Renaissance and Baroque motets to more contemporary choral settings, including spirituals.
Senior Choir rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 8.00pm to 9.30pm and on Sunday morning from 10.00 am to 10.40 am (before the service). Junior Choir rehearsals are on Sunday, after the service, from 12.30pm to 1.15pm.
New members to the choirs are always welcome. Senior choir members need to have some experience of singing polyphonic choral music and sight-reading. Applicants for the senior choir will audition with the choir director. The audition will comprise singing a hymn of your choice and sight-read a simple melody.
Junior Choir members must be at least 6 years old and be able to read English. The Junior Choir follows the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) ‘Voice for Life’ programme, which includes music theory and practice.
